A women’s softball cricket festival is held

Included were Matfen All Blacks, Matfen Big Whites, Stocksfield Cricket Club, Tynedale Cricket Club, South North Cricket Club and Barbarians (Morpeth, Newcastle and Matfen).

Softball cricket is an eight-sided cricket game played on smaller pitches, and the percussionists hit in pairs with a soft ball.

There were three fields and six teams during the festival, which means there were always three games at the same time.

According to Lisa Scott, who hosted the event, “it was fun, fast, friendly and competitive.

“For many of the women, this was their first cricket taste against other teams.

“Everyone had a great day – each team played three games in the scorching sunshine.”

A hundred races were launched last week in the women’s game, and Lisa said she believed it could inspire people to let the game go.

After the festival, many attendees headed to Matfen’s Black Bull Pub, which sponsored the village’s women’s teams this year.

The Matfen women’s softball team was recently formed in May this year and trains every Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the cricket club.

“This has been a really good opportunity for women to get together on a social basis, but also to exercise and learn a new sport and get all the benefits of learning a team sport,” Lisa said.

Everyone is welcome to come along and go along, he added.

Other softball cricket festivals are held in the summer, hosted by other participating teams.
