The Belarusian Olympic athlete says he has been taken to Tokyo airport unless he wants to board the flight back to Belarus when he complained about his coaches on social media.
Sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya said on August 1 that she had applied for protection from the Japanese police at Haneda Airport so she would not have to board.
Tsimanouskaya said he did not want to return to Belarus and asked the International Olympic Committee to intervene.
Tsimanouskajan was scheduled to compete in the women’s 200-meter race on August 2, but she said her coaching staff had ordered her to pack before she took her to the airport.
Tsimanouskaya claimed on social media that Belarusian authorities participated in the women’s 400-meter message on July 29 at short notice after some team members were found unfit to compete.
In its statement, the Belarusian Olympic Committee noted that Tsimanouskaya withdrew from the games on the advice of doctors from his “emotional, mental state.”
Tsimanouskaya intends to seek political asylum in Austria.
