A man allegedly driven to cyclists in the United States on charges of murder in Australia US news

An Arizona the man faces charges of assaulting him for allegedly driving his truck to people racing a bike race nearly six weeks ago, has been charged with murder.

The indictment, released Wednesday, adds to the murder charge of Shawn Michael Chock over the death of 58-year-old Australian Jeremy Barrett.

Barrett was one of the injured on June 19 when Chock attacked a crowd that gathered for the annual 93-mile Bike the Bluff race at Show Low, a mountain town about three hours northeast of Phoenix.

He is also charged with aggravated assault on nine others, leaving the scene of the accident and fleeing law enforcement. Chock has previously denied guilt in some of the charges, although he has not yet filed a murder charge.
Hunter T Lewis, a lawyer representing Chock, declined to comment on the charge.

Prosecutors allege that after drifting into the crowd, Chock hit the hub of the phone and retreated from the crowd as cyclists knocked on the windows of trucks, shouting him out. He then drove down the road, turned around and headed back towards the cyclists before leaving.

Police shot Chock at a nearby hardware store. He was charged after he was discharged from the hospital and is still on $ 500,000 in prison.

Barretts’ condition had improved with the surgery, and Flagstaff doctors planned to transport him to Tucson. However, a friend has said Barrett suffered another setback while fighting to survive. He died on July 10.

Barrett, who spent part of his life in Zimbabwe and Australia, was known in the cycling community for welcoming new riders and hosting cyclists who trained in southern Arizona, friends said.
