Orioles played that kind of game on Wednesday to make you happy to have a day off

Hey friends.

Last night, the Orioles game was the kind of game that will make you a happy holiday today. When I’ve seen the bull’s bench failure, which began in the fifth set due to Matt Harveys ’early withdrawal from the game and continued into the seventh, I’m ready for the day off. There was bad pitching, bad luck, and poor defense, and everything was combined for the big 2021 Orioles vintage.

Stupid games like last night are the ones that make me feel that if I have to look at this nonsense, Orioles might as well choose from everyone’s problems. That is not the case at the moment. The Orioles, 38-69, came on Wednesday with six losses less than MLB’s worst Diamondbacks. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: It’s hard to suck those guys out.

The other teams competing for second place, which the Orioles currently occupy, also lost on Wednesday night. The Twins dropped the match to the Reds 6-5. Pirates lost the match 4-2 to Brewers. And closest to the Orioles, just half the game behind before yesterday’s games, the Rangers were also losers and dropped 2-1 to the Angels. It’s also hard to tell some of these guys.

There are many more optimistic people in Birdland than I am. One night after Os won the season opener against the Yankees, I put a poll on Camden Chats ’Twitter account asking if they would exceed Orioles’ then-pace of 59-103 or not. 63.5% of those who voted thought the orioles would go over, 60 wins or more. It felt generous to me then, and the last two losses haven’t made a 60+ win seem more likely. But then I’m a notable downer.

Not that it’s hard to be a Downer when you look at the remaining Orioles schedule. They had a soft stretch from the All Star break. Reality came back with the Yankees series that had just ended. There are a lot of AL East games coming up during the season, and as we all know, these teams are all better than the Orioles and are fighting for places after the season. The East glove continues after the Friday holiday when the Os host radiates.
