The Hundred: Manchester Originals upset Southern Brave in the women’s race

The previously undefeated Manchester Originals caused a hundred shocks for women to date to win unbeaten Southern Brave rain at Emirates Old Trafford.

The Originals have struggled with the racket throughout the tournament, but the opening hour of 52 between Emma Lambin, who made 32, and Lizelle Lee, who was unbeaten at 43 when the rain started at 17.45 BST, gave them a platform.

Lee shared an unbroken 45 with his South African compatriot Mignon du Preez, who didn’t make it out of 15, as the Originals were 17 runs above the required Duckworth-Lewis-Stern goal when the heavy rain came.

Brave remains at the top of the eight-team table, while Originals rises to seventh above Birmingham Phoenix.

Hartley arrives at The Hundred

Before the tournament, Hartley spoke using this competition to find out if he wants to push and earn his place in England when he has lost his key contract in 2019, or whether he wants to play local domestic cricket alongside his media career.

To this day, it hadn’t gone his way. He hadn’t taken a goal, and had gone on 74 runs in the Originals ’three finished games.
