“Do you want to see him on the ice again”: Hockey saves the life of a referee who collapsed on ice during a game in Wellesley – Boston News, Weather, Sports

WELLESLEY, MASS. (WHDH) – A young hockey player helped save the referee’s life, which suddenly collapsed on ice during a game at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley on Tuesday night.

Tom Parker, 24, rushed from his seat on the bench to perform resuscitation on a 52-year-old judge who had fallen on ice after suffering a medical period, according to Seacoast Hockey authorities.

I jumped off the boards, skated over when I got to him, he was on his back and not really breathing, no pulse, turned blue, Parker recalled.

Parker, who is training to become an EMT, performed a resuscitation for a real person in need for the first time that night.

My training really took over and I started doing squeezes, Parker said. I did it with five or ten squeezes.

A teammate then grabbed the defibrillator inside the building and Parker used it to resuscitate the referee, stabilizing him.

The judge was taken to hospital and his condition is stable, authorities said.

Parker, who has been playing hockey since he was six, said this was the biggest achievement ever.

I just want to see him on the ice again because I think it would be the greatest gift he could give me, just go back to the ice and live his life again, he said.
