Uttarakhand Prime Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced the cash prize $ 25 million to Vandana Katariya, a member of the Indian women’s hockey team who participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Vandana became the first Indian women’s hockey player to do the Olympic hat trick on July 31 when India beat South Africa 4-3 to keep hopes alive.

Vandana scored in the first, second and fourth quarters of India’s final match at Tokyo Olympics Pool A to get her name found in the history books.

“We are proud that Uttarakhand’s daughter Vandana Katariya made an unforgettable contribution to India’s outstanding performance in women’s hockey at the Tokyo Olympics,” the prime minister said. “In recognition of this, he would be awarded a monetary prize 25 million. “

The state will soon introduce an attractive new sports policy that will help nurture budding talent in various games, he added.

Vandana has played for the women’s national hockey team in more than 200 international matches and was also part of the team that won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games.

While the Indian women’s hockey national team lost the bronze medal against Britain after bravely fighting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, this was the overall team team’s all-time show at the Olympics. Prior to this, India only appeared twice in a women’s hockey event in a multi-sport program. Although they had also finished fourth in 1980, they had not made it to the tournament and competed in a six-team round robin.

The Indian women’s hockey team made it to the Olympics for the first time in 2016 when they finished 12th out of 20 teams. However, they managed to finish fourth this time, breaking all previous records and showing their rise over the years.
