Cricket-Indian Kohli rose with “gold dust” from tailenders

NOTTINGHAM, England (Reuters) – India’s notoriously fragile batting tail with a nearly 50-run bet in the first innings of the anti-England betting test was like “gold dust”, Indian captain Virat Kohli said.

Since 2018, India’s last three bats have been the worst average of all test players.

They made a significant contribution to Trent Bridge in Nottingham, but the rain washed away the game of the last day on Sunday and robbed the exciting finish of the match.

The best of the career from 28 Jasprit Bumrah, 13 from Mohammed Sham and seven from outside Mohammed Sirag helped tourists achieve a vital 95-run first-year leadership in the low-scoring race.

“They’ve been in networks regularly, wanted to participate regularly, wanted to make an impact on the team,” Kohli said of the benefits of beating the tailers after the draw.

“Getting 50 pluses from these three bowlers was like gold dust to us.

“We had talked about a 40-fold lead and then we got to lead 95 purely because of their efforts.”

By comparison, England’s last three bats made twice in a total of 20 series openings.

“Mere consideration and determination,” Kohli said. “As an opponent, when bowlers get to run, it can be annoying. They did a tremendous job with the racket.”

When tailenders give a good picture of themselves, India is tempted to continue with the same bowling combination with four seamstresses and a pacemaker in the remaining four tests on Joe Root’s side.

“This looks like the right model ahead,” Kohli said.

The second test is scheduled to take place at Lord’s starting Thursday.
