AlphaTaur’s boss Tost hopes to keep Gasly and Tsunoda until 2022

AlphaTauri is one of many teams that have not yet confirmed their driver line-up for 2022, but Franz Tost says he wants to continue the current pair of Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda next season.

Gasly have scored a steady goal this season on the podium in Azerbaijan, and the Frenchman is a hot feature in F1 after winning his first win in Monza last year. As for Tsunoda, Tost said he expects a strong second half of 2022 from the Japanese newcomer and wants to keep him on board for that reason.

Personally, I hope we can continue with these two drivers because Pierre is a fantastic driver very fast, very experienced, he fits really well into the team and I want to keep Yuki too because you know we trained him for one year and I expect him to have a very strong second half, he said.

Tsunoda has made mistakes, including a recent crash in the first exercise Hungaroring and what he called a “big mistake” in Imola but Tost supported the beginner and said the 20-year-old needs to prepare well for the next season.
