ALAMOSA – The Alamosa Pickleball Club (APC), represented by Jenene Holcomb, USAPA Ambassador to Pickleball in Alamosa, presented Andamos Rice, director of Alamosa Parks and Recreation, with a “golden melon” appreciating the department’s support for pickleball. The tennis courts at Boyd and Carrol Park have recently been resurfaced, and new lines for pickleball courts are being painted at both locations.
The APC felt that the city’s park and recreation department deserved extra recognition for its support and encouragement to grow pickleball.
Pickleball is a type of paddleball (similar to a racket game) that combines badminton, table tennis and tennis. [3] Two or four players use a tree or
composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, just like a wiffle ball,
[4] 26-40 round holes over the net. The sport has similar features to other racket sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and the net and rules, which are somewhat similar to tennis, with several changes. It is one of the fastest growing sports in America!
