Jimmy Anderson records, Glenn McGrath GOAT, five-five, five throws

McGrath took 563 throws at 21.64, which is the fourth best among the 50 best test wicket takers of all time and better than any other among the top five, where he is currently fifth.

Although Anderson has 626 goals in 26.49, he is a different bowler away from home averaging over 30 everywhere except England and Wales, the United Arab Emirates and the West Indies.

And in Australia, his figures are the worst when they have taken 60 goals to 35.43.

But at age 39, Anderson is still number one in England, and some Englishmen say he will get better on earth at age 40.

Maybe we can’t say he would be the best of all time – it would take a lot to seize McGrath – but it’s fair to say that Anderson has a terrible longevity.

In fact, he became the first bowler to be 18 years old between the first and last five throws.

Anderson took his 31st five-throw rounds in 164 tests and at the seventh Lord at 5/64 on the second day of the second test.

India had accumulated 3/276 stocks on the first day, but under Anderson’s leadership, the hosts limited India to 364.

“It’s definitely just as special,” Anderson said as he took his last five throws in the same country he took the first 18 years ago.

“Getting seven here is really amazing … I hope it’s not the last time the honorable mention.”

It was a particularly commendable comeback, given that 39-year-old Anderson had come to this game to treat a thigh problem.

Social media quickly praised the age-old wonder.

England was already without Stuart Broad after Anderson’s longtime new ball partner was excluded from these five test series due to a calf injury.

“I don’t feel extra responsibility because he’s (broad) not here,” Anderson said.

But skipper Joe Root again had to hold together England’s top ranking after dropping 2/23. not out Root saved the day.

The hosts were on 3/119 heels on the second day, still 245 runs after India’s first innings 364.

“India is likely to still have an advantage, but if we get a couple of big partnerships, it will get us back in the game,” Anderson said.

“Joe has been amazing all his career and statistics over the last 12 months with the pandemic and everything else, it’s been over-human.”

When Root hit 14, he passed Graham Gooch’s 8,900 test run and came in second after Alastair Cook (12,472) on the England all-time list.
