Brian Kelly announces that QB Jack Coan will start against FSU

FSU Football will host Notre Dame at the season opener on September 5th. One of Notre Dame’s biggest question marks is the answer when head coach Brian Kelly announced Jack Coan will start as a defender against Noles.

Not surprisingly, most drew the Wisconsin move as a beginner when he arrived on campus in the spring.

Kelly reported the news a week after the fall camp. Jack Coan replaces Notre Dame’s most victorious defender of all time, Ian Book.

The book was a fourth-round selection from the New Orleans Saints in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jack Coan was the backup behind Wisconsin rookie Alex Hornibrook. The latter should ring the bell for FSU football fans when Hornibrook moved to FSU in 2019 to play at Willie Taggart.

What does Coan bring to Notre Dame’s table? He plays behind a new line of attack and is a pocket walker.

Coan passed 2,727 yards and made 69.2 percent of his passes. He scored 18 goals and fought five. One notable thing, opposing defenses kicked him 29 times in Wisconsin (9.7 percent of feed games).

Coan averaged 7.5 yards per company in Wisconsin. I think Coan is a solid player who can do some plays.

Wisconsin was the first to throw the ball down 54 percent of the time and tried to avoid putting Coan in obvious passing situations. He made 68.5 percent of those feeds, and 38 percent of the yards he passed were down first.

He wasn’t terrible on the third and seven yards, averaging 70 percent of his passes. However, he reversed these third lows by just 31.9 percent.

The key to FSU football is to stop the run and put Coan in clear passing situations. If they can do that and restrict the passages below, they might find some success in slowing down Notre Dame’s crime.
