The goal of UAlbany football is to “shock the world” against a tough schedule

ALBANY The timetable is at least ambitious.

But from head coach Greg Gattuson down, UAlbany’s national football team’s message to the meat grinder, which is the 2021 season, especially the grueling three-week start, is simple.

Bring it on.

If everyone were on the same page and everyone was preparing, UAlbany quarterback Jeff Undercuffler said they would shock the world.

One of Gattusos ’constant abstentions is that there’s never an easy game on the Danish schedule as members of the CAA, but what UAlbany has on this year’s menu is particularly spicy.

In addition to the teams ’nine CAA games, UAlbanys’ two no-conference games are both doozies and are only available every 14 days.

The season opens on September 4, when a trip to Fargo, North Dakota, to host the North Dakota State team that won the last eight 10 FCS championships, followed two weeks later by a rather shorter trip west on NYS Thruway to face the Syracuse Carrier Dome -within the precincts of.

Oh, and the game between the two on September 11 home and the CAA opening against Rhode Island is also not a picnic.

The schedule is relentless this year, Gattuso said, and it’s good. We know what it will be.

UAlbany has started a rough spring season where the team went 1-3 as the schedule was postponed to spring due to constraints related to a new coronavirus pandemic. The Danish spring, which ended in three consecutive losses, was cut even shorter when the team decided to cancel their last two games due to growing injuries.

The return of a much healthier crowd has greatly improved the mood of the Danes, as the team announced their pre-camp from earlier this month.

The first day I came back, I was happy, the defensive ending Jared Verse said. All back healthy and smiling. People got the surgeries they needed, some got the rehabilitation they needed. All back full, depressing the accelerator pedal.

Verse is one of the Danes waiting in the team spotlight at the start of the season.

Of all the frustrations the program experienced in the spring, Verse was one of the team’s biggest bright spots, collecting four sacks and the top 10 losses of the conference in the spring on its way to the CAA’s defensive newcomer.

The games against North Dakota State and Syracuse represent the highest level of talent. and allows the 6-foot-4 defensive head to showcase its remarkable athletic talent.

Personally, I can see what I can do against a team that is so good, Verse said. They have NFL prospects every year. I think it’s the best way to show my skills on the big stage.

Verse was one of many younger Danes who got their first game action on the show in the spring, including wide receiver Mike Gray and defending defenders Christian Lewis and Larry Walker Jr.

All of these players are expected to play big roles this fall, and since Gattuso knows the overalls waiting for the Danes early next year, he’s pleased to be starting the season with a bit of valuable experience under his belt.

Take advantage of the UAlbanys 9-4 2019 team’s restorative factors, including Undercuffler, running ball Karl Mofor and defense equipment Ibn Foster, and the Danes, who are designing with a Fargo team that is as deep and talented, if not more than any Gattusos before.

If we can stay healthy, Gattuso said, we can be a good football team. We have parts to be a good football team. We have the most talent we had, and I would say that in most of the tasks we were as deep as we could be.
