Ty Thompson created a serious place in the QB battle

We’re just over two weeks away from the start of the 2021 Oregon football season and the opening game against Fresno State and Ducks is still no clear answer to QB1.

Anthony Brown was a supposed starter who was going to fall camp, but things may have changed since the first live fight over the weekend.

Brown has Robby Ashford, Ty Thompson and Jay Butterfield forcing him to take up his duties. If the Ducks want an experience, they should go with a Boston College transfer that replaced Tyler Sphinx at the end of the 2020 season, but if they want to raise the ceiling and suffer some growth pains along the way, they go to Ashford, Butterfield or fan favorite Thompson.

After one fight, it looks like the fan favorite may be in a great position to push Brown into the starting chores.

In fact, Mario Cristobal said he acted best among the defenders of the battle, which is surprising given that he is the youngest in the room, but also because it shows that he has grown a ton since the spring ball.

The fact that Cristobal says this leaves the door open for a real freshman to win the starting work this fall.

Ty Thompson raises the ceiling of Oregon football

Many fans like Brown because he is a stable player who doesn’t usually get too high or too low, and has the experience that is sometimes necessary to get into the playoffs.

But Thompson could be the same for Oregon as Trevor Lawrence Clemson or Tua Tagovailoa for Alabama. Simply put, he could be the first- or second-year Full-Time Beginner who takes the attack to the next level, shines in the spotlight, and leads the Ducks to the big stage.

It’s worth saying that Thompson was Oregon’s best-placed defender of all time, and he has already shown that he deserves a look at QB1.

He’s made a serious ground since the spring, and I think he’s just getting better.
