Warriors lead the area for boys tennis Evening star

2020 record: 21-3, 8-0 NECC

The Warriors repeated the champions of the blocks and regions in 2020 and swept the Northeast Corner Conference regular season and tournament titles.

They have to replace Will Clark and Brady Hostetler’s double team No. 1, which season 26-1 in their final season. Half of their No. 2 double team, Tim Brandenberger, also lost graduation. His partner Isaac Rogers returns to his senior season.

Westview brings back all their single players led by their single player Isaiah Hostetler.

Both Elijah Hostetler’s No. 2 singles and Brennan Beachy, who was the third single last season, are going back to their old campaigns.

Jethro Hostetler and Kendall Schwartz were promoted last season after a couple of players missed time due to COVID protocols. Both are back and increase the depth of the Warrior lineup.

Other returnees include Kylen Bender, Cole Mast and Dawson Schrock. Newcomers to Westview include Mason Clark, Jace Lang, Kason Schrock and Dylan Schrock.

The loss of three experienced doubles players from last season’s team is an adjustment, but we will return to our entire zinc team and a few players who have gained more experience from the university program due to COVID protocols, Westview head coach Tyler Miller said. Many of the boys have worked their games during the offseason and are looking forward to participating in the competition.

The Knights have been a step away from the Warriors recently, but have built towards a final overtaking.

Most of the second-ranked line-ups of the Northeast 8 Conference are back, including their No. 1 rank, Vittorio Bona, who was 17-6 and was an honorary member of all states.

Bona was one of four knights who earned All-NE8 honors last season. Nolan Ogle, who won 21 matches in No. 2 singles, and the double team of Max Bender and Carver Miller, who won 15 matches in 2020, received recognition throughout the conference.

Ryan Ludwig, Grant Schermerhorn and Brycen Ortiz will also return as letter winners.

Michael Deetz, Kanon Combs, Caden Treesh and Cale Ernsberger make up the rest of the East Noble list.

The boys have been working on open fields and league games against other schools this summer to prepare for the season in which we compete for conference and episode methods, East Noble head coach Aaron Edwards said.

DeKalb has a veteran lineup for a while when it comes to the title of the fourth straight episode.

The Barons lost the top two single players and one double-player, but fourth-year coach Todd Hartsough is confident the depth of the program will show again.

Krue Nagel, a duel last year, is a lone senior. Junior Owen Holwerda moved into the third single slot game late last season. Junior Elijah Ehmke and sophomore Kiefer Nagel were also double players a year ago.

Be addicted to returning beginners carrying a flashlight, Hartsough said. We are working to improve our finish with NE8 this season and improve our record.

These gentlemen will not cease to surprise me with their ability to overcome adversity, and we expect it to continue in 2021.

The Eagles should once again create a strong team for Neal Frantz, who is in his sixth season as coach.

Six players return to their older seasons in singles singles, Ethan Bock, Nick Miller, a singles and four guys who have largely played doubles in Sam Verdin, Josh Sherbondy, Alex Chilensk and Isaac Hirschy.

Key new entrants include senior Connor Trobaugh, sophomore Brody Foulk and junior Jeremy Rode.

The new era of Hornet tennis begins with a new coach with a proud family tradition in tennis when Rosten Hamman takes power.

Hamman played collegially at Betel during his senior season in the spring of 2012 and was a tennis professional at the Rolling Hills Country Club in the Evansville area. His wife played tennis in Bethel, and he also has a brother who played college tennis.

Rostens ’father is Rod Hamman, who has coached Tippecanoe Valley tennis for over 30 years.

Rosten Hamman moved to Angola from Evansville in the summer of 2020 and quickly participated in the Angolan High School tennis program.

Taking over this team has been awesome. Scott Hottell had laid a great foundation and the transition was smooth, Hamman said.

Angola has a legacy in terms of the tennis program and I hope to bring them back to their glory. This season is going to be fun.

The Hornets are all back to last year’s doubles. Marcus Miller and Jacob Pontorno played in the blocks last year in a duel, while Aiden Koch and Connor Libey were in a duel. They are all retirees this season.

First-timers Quinn Aldred, Michael Newburgh, Brady Warren and Jed Mortorff are expected to take on lead roles. Boys in other sports also help.

Our first-timers have a fantastic work ethic and a competitive spirit that can’t be taught, Hamman said. Quinn brings a lot of experience and strength. He is a solid player. Michael has a lot of consistency and he also has a huge role to play in the composition of our universities.

Senior Harrison Bruick is also a respected director at the Hornets.

Panther sports director Brent Byler begins a new round of tennis as a tennis coach, which includes coaching his son, junior Leyton Byler.

Leyton Byler is the top player in Heights. He did an individual singles episode and was 11-13 on the number one pages last season.

The rest of the team continues to grow in tennis at their own pace. The other three starters will return in juniors at Breyton Ambler (10-13, last year’s 3rd single), Kaleb Lounsbury and Chase Bachelor. Lounsbury and Bachelor played both doubles and doubles last year.

Secondary Hayden Culler will take on a full-time university role after playing on the junior team as a freshman in 2020. He has spent a lot of time and improved a lot, Brent Byler said.

I look forward to working with this dedicated young men, the coach added. They are hard workers and coachable, and improve a lot during the season.

The Lakers ranked eighth in the NECC and are working to improve while replacing the top two single players and half of its first double team.

Junior Wyatt Priestley was in 3rd place last season, and Dominic Lawrence was part of the No. 1 doubles team, both returning for the 2021 season.

Colton Fleeman and Brayden Miles were last season’s No. 2 double team and both have returned.

Jack Miller, Tyler Yoder, Isaac Larimer, Treston Sunken, Xai Leu, Charlie Harris and Clayton Trump are other returnees for the Lakers. Freshman Ethan Rasbaugh is expected to be a major entrant this season.

I am very excited about this year. We lost three big university players, but we have a large junior crowd that is going to do great things for Lakeland tennis, Lakeland head coach Michael Rasbaugh said. The commitment this team has shown over the summer was awesome and I can’t wait for the season to start.

The Chargers are trying to challenge the NECC top spot with their full line-up from last season.

Senior Chris Miller was second to Elijah Hostetler in second place in the NECC tournament doubles to earn all conference awards. The No. 1 pair of Nevin Phares and Brayden Bohde also received full conference recognition after finishing second in the conference tournament.

No. 1 singles Nate Shaw, No. 3 Singles Luke Schermerhorn and JJ Jacobs and Wes Shaw’s double tandem No. 2 make up all the other West Noble letter winners.

Lee Stringfellow, Josh Ness, Bailey Ruisard, Miguel Mayorga, Blake Whittney and Erick Mendoza complete the rest of the list.

We’re returning our entire list from last season, so we have a good experience. We believe we can be competitive in all our matches, West Noble coach Greg Riegsecker said. The boys have worked hard to improve the summer, so it should be a fun season. We look forward to what we can achieve.

After an unbeaten season in 2020, Cougars hopes to improve on coach Joey Mawhorters ’second season.

Austin Frey, Caleb Weaver and Dylan Carnahan are Central Noble’s best producers.

Key new entrants include Carter Meinika, Carter Wilkinson, Noah Yoder, Regan Yoder and Ryne Keirn. Mason Frey, Kyle Phillips, Noah Shepherd and Cole Wilson will also be competing for Cason this season.

The Eagles finished sixth in the conference last season and seventh in the NECC tournament.

Gavin Haberstock was number one in last season’s conference tournament in fifth place.
