The Australian Men’s T20 World Championship team has been named with selections that swing with an ax to free up space for countries returning to the stars.
David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Kane Richardson have been reinstated after passing the white ball rounds of West India and Bangladesh, while Steve Smith has been named despite a painful elbow injury.
Australia has nominated 15 players and three tour bookings.

Eight players have not been arrested on Caribbean and Bangladesh tours, most notably Alex Carey, who was the Australian captain in the ODI races against the West Indies but struggled with the racket in the T20 series.
He was replaced by unlimited Scorchers goalkeeper-striker Josh Inglis, who has been dominant in England’s T20 Blast at 531 with a run of 48.27 and a strike rate of 175.82.
Chief Elector George Bailey told reporters that Inglis had been on the radar of selectors for some time.
We had talked to Josh about playing in The Blast and hopefully The Hundred and kept going that way and he really did, Bailey said.
We think he brings a lot of flexibility. His transition to Scorchers secondary was seamless. He’s a good spin player and offers a few different finishing abilities by playing around the country, but he’s also really effective – a great versatile player.
He added: I appreciate it for having a bolder look, but he’s definitely someone we’ve been following for a while.
At the same time, Josh Philippe, Moises Henriques, Riley Meredith, AJ Tye, Ashton Turner, Jason Behrendorff and Ben McDermott also did not survive.
Australia has never won the men’s world T20 championship and will go to the UAE tournament after losing consecutive away leagues this year against New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh.
In 2021, Australia has won only 15 T20I series four times, even though it had a severely depleted series against the West Indies and Bangladesh.
Bailey said in a statement on Thursday that the team is confident to turn things around.
We are confident that this team will have the ability to take a deep position in a highly competitive tournament, he said.
We have some of the best players in the world in their own roles along with a collective experience to succeed against the best T20 sides in the world.
Jhye Richardson was the second omission of shock from the team and paid the price for lost in Australia’s last matches dominated by Josh Hazlewood.
Richardson was in his year at the IPL auction, which Kings XI Punjab paid $ 2.48 million, but struggled for playing time after a slow start.
