Arsenal have signed Norway’s international Martin degaard Real Madrid on a permanent deal, the Premier League club said on Friday.
The midfielder used the second half of last season on loan Arsenalmade 20 matches in all competitions and scored two goals, including a 2-1 victory over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal did not disclose the financial details of the transfer, but the payment is estimated at € 34 million. degaard becomes the fourth summer month of cannonmen after Ben Ben, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said of the Norwegian: Many of the things he brought last season made us better, we needed more options and alternatives to creativity. He’s still a really young man, but he has huge experience in clubs and he has unique talents in the way we want to play, so I’m really glad the club has done the job.
degaard joined Real at the age of 16 and became their youngest player of all time, but played only 11 matches in all competitions and started six games.
The 22-year-old is not available for a Sunday match against Chelsea as the club is awaiting visa permits.
Arteta also confirmed that the club is close to completing a deal with Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. There are still papers left, but his doctor has been treated, a few things with Sheffield, he added.
