The Portland State Vikings will have their first full dispute Monday morning at Stott Community Field. The PSU will conduct 60-70 games with the referees during normal practice time, 7:25-9:45. The bullying is expected to begin at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The Viking coaching staff will continue to evaluate the coaching team Bruce Barnum seems to be his deepest.

“I like competition and depth. At the moment, guys are challenging places and our coaches need to be very attentive and evaluate talent. We need to get the guys in the right place and on the field,” he said.

Expect to see a lot of clicks on Barnum’s top three defenders. Development behind an established older beginner Davis Alexander was really pleased with the head coach.

“I like the race,” Barnum said. “Dante Chachere the child has grown more than anyone else on the team. He speaks in a huddle, takes command, does plays and uses his speed.

“Jaden (Casey) has a great arm and he’s accurate. He was available for transfer this year, and we had no chance of missing him.”

“At the end of today’s practice, our top three are Davis, Chachere and Casey. They’re all damn good. And the guys behind them are doing good things. I really like this position.”

Chachere is still a Viking red shirt, although he is starting his third year in the program. He has seen action in four career games. Casey moved from Cal, where she was in a red blouse last season after a layered high school career.

Defenders have had many opportunities to work during the first two weeks of training. The coaching staff has had to extend the bypass drills one by one because there are players on both sides of the ball and the competition.

“We’re using bypass drills for longer because we have more guys to evaluate with the wide receiver and DB,” Barnum said.

Good health is the key to Monday’s quarrel, as the Vikings are just over two weeks away from their first game.

“When we stay on a healthy game day, it’s hard for us to beat. I know everyone is talking about right now, but this is a good football team. If we bring them together, we win the games,” Barnum said.

SCRIMMAGE # 2: The Vikings will have a shorter, situational battle during next Wednesday’s rehearsal.

NO RILEA: The state of Portland had planned to travel to Camp Rilea off the Oregon coast this season for a handful of exercises. However, this weekend’s trip was canceled to keep everyone healthy in their current environment.
