Seaman compares himself to Ramsdale when considering a transfer to Arsenal and points out similarities

David Seaman has noticed “similarities” between Arsenal’s signing of Aaron Ramsdale and his own transfer to the club in 1990.

Seaman was acquired 1.5 yards from QPR – an English record for the goalkeeper at the time – but supporters strongly criticized the move.

Just as the debate over Ramsdale’s impending move to The Emirates was concerned about his ability, as Seaman was the third-ranked England goalkeeper at the time.

However, he would show the skeptics wrong when he won three league championships and four FA cups.

The Gunners legend now hopes that Ramsdale will follow a similar path in the club and pleasantly surprise people with their performances.

“There are a lot of similarities to when I joined Arsenal” he told talkSPORT.

“I was in the England No. 3 World Championships in 1990, Ramsdale has done the same.

– I started getting a stick because the fans didn’t want me. They all sang ‘[John] Lukic is better than Seaman ‘and’ you never play in Arsenal ‘.

“There are some similarities and hopefully he will continue his very good career at Arsenal.”

However, Seaman does not yet expect Ramsdale to “walk into the team.”

“He’s still learning, you see it,” he said. “Will he join the team? I don’t think so. I think he needs to do coaching, impress the coach, and get the boys’ respect, too.”

Back in June, he said of rumors linking Ramsdale to Arsenal to replace Bernd Leno: “I’m disappointed if Leno leaves. I ask myself, “why is he going?”

“He’s been there a long time and has been pretty consistent. Would I think Ramsdale would be good? Yeah, he’s a quality goalkeeper in the English frame, but I want both.

“I was very disappointed when [Emi] Martinez went because we need two quality goalkeepers in the club to test each other.

– They let him go and he wasn’t pressured [Leno]. Getting other goalkeepers is a good thing, but if it’s the price of an international top scorer, I’m not too sure. “
