Elaine Thompson-Herah: The Olympic winner runs the second fastest women’s 100m

The Jamaican, who defended his 100 and 200-meter Olympic victories in Tokyo in 2020, ran a 10.54-second world time as he continued to flirt and broke the 1988 10.49-second Florence Griffith-Joyner world record.

After the race, Thompson-Herah said he was surprised that it had reached such a fast time so fast after the Olympics.

“Returning (a personal record) after the championship is amazing,” Thompson-Herah told reporters. “I haven’t run so fast in five years.”

“I have a lot more in it, so yes, it’s possible,” he added when asked if he could set new 100-meter and 200-meter world records.

The Diamond League event repeated a lot in Tokyo 2020, when Thompson-Herah compatriots Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson finished second and third.

Thompson-Herah set a new Olympic record for that race despite participating in the Games due to a clear injury that had threatened his participation.

Another Jamaican, Usain Bolt, is known to have won three consecutive 100-meter Olympic gold medals between 2008 and 2016, and Thompson-Herah now has the opportunity to do the same at the 2024 Paris Games.
