Fawad Alam struck a century before Pakistan declared 302/9 in its first turn, and West India struggled in 39/3 in response before a bad light brought a premature end to the third day of Sabina Park’s second test on Sunday (August 23). The hosts are 263 runs behind as they have lost opener Kieran Powell and Kraigg Brathwaite cheaply after being beaten due to the second day’s weather report.

Alam was retired on the opening day with 76 suffering from heat exhaustion, and when the rain melted the game off the second day, he had to wait to return to the wrinkle before raising the fifth test hundred as he directed Pakistan’s 300-run mark, points 124 not out.

Pakistan had continued the third day 212-4 but only eight balls were wound up before the game was suspended because West India thought the dangerous bowling wrinkle was a wet patch.

The game finally began after lunch when Jason Holder made two flies to the Windies in consecutive balls, but Fawad kept the score at the other end. After the sudden declaration of Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi eliminated Powell and Brathwaite when West India fell to 9-2 and Roston Chase was bowled by Faheem Ashraf 10.

West India beat Pakistan by one door in the first test, which was also played behind closed doors in Sabina Park.
