Southern Brave coach and former England captain Charlotte Edwards believes the Hundred has “alone changed women’s cricket in this country.”
The women’s matches in the tournament garnered a total audience of 267,000, the highest women’s cricket event in the world.
The previous record was set in 2020, when 136,000 people took part in the T20 World Cup in Australia.
“I wouldn’t have thought it would have an immediate impact,” Edwards said.
Edwards was on the side Oval Invincibles won in the finals at Lord’s on Saturday, which was played in front of an audience of 17,116 people.
“I’ve had the best place in the house, I’ve seen the crowds and seen the players’ reaction to everything, ”Edwards said.
“I think Sata alone has changed women’s cricket in this country. It has been a very special experience for all parties.”
Watching the women’s finals peaked at 1.4 meters on the BBC and Sky Sports, while the men’s match, which was won by Southern Brave, hit a 2.4-meter peak.
Ticket sales for the four-week tournament totaled 510,000, of which 19% were for children.
Most of the matches were held in double titles due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the Cricket Board of England and Wales plans to maintain this format in 2022.
“If you had asked me six months ago, I would probably have been on the fence,” Edwards said of the double-headed.
“Once we’ve experienced what we’ve experienced, and the reaction to it all, at least for the next three or four years, a double-headed format would be the perfect way forward.”
The ECB also said they are working to close the pay gap between male and female players.
While the winners took home as much prize money, women’s salaries range from 3,600 to 15,000, while men’s lowest grade starts at 24,000.
The tournament was held at the same time as the domestic 50-over competition, which means that the county championship has not been held since July 11th.
The lack of red ball cricket for English men during his series of tests against India has been criticized.
“The purpose of growing the base of the sport is to protect the things that are most valuable to us and that are county cricket and test cricket to us,” added ECB President Tom Harrison.
“One hundred why a hundred has started successfully is that it electrifies content and content that people want to watch.
“At the end of the day, test cricket is the pinnacle of electrifying content you see around the world. Players continue to rate themselves based on their performance in the test format.”
