Gracia named tennis assistant – University of Oklahoma

NORMAN The University of Oklahoma leads women’s tennis Audra Cohen Jose Gracia announced the program as the new assistant coach on Monday.

Gracia, a former two-time OU volunteer assistant, will return to the program after the season as assistant coach of the Tulsa Women’s Tennis Program. During Gracia’s TU, the team closed the ITA ranking of the season in the top 45, and three players placed in the ITA doubles and doubles releases. Under Gracia’s direction, Golden Hurricane dropped two wins from the Power Five programs and finished second in the AAC Championships.

“Speaking to numerous candidates, it was obvious that Jose fits perfectly with our philosophy of being humble, hardworking and hungry to improve,” Cohen said. “Jose has already been an important part of the rise of our program, and we are excited that he will return to Norman with his passion and energy.”

Prior to Tulsa, Grac worked as a volunteer assistant at Sooners from June 2018 to July 2019 and again from May 2020 to November 2020.

When Gracia was in the OU, the Sooners finished in the season 2019 17-9 and equalized the tenth win in program history. The team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships, appearing for the 11th time in nationalities and for the first time since 2015. In addition to volunteering, Gracia was the Chief Professional at the OU Tennis Club.

Between her two OU internships, Gracia served as a women’s assistant coach in the state of Fresno from 2019-20.

During his career, Gracia has coached a total of five players to all conference honors and three have earned an offer for the NCAA doubles and doubles championships.

“He can play at a high level, coach at a high level and most importantly, he always cares about the team himself,” Cohen said.

Gracia had an impressive collegial player career in the state of Florida, earning 163 wins to place her sixth on the school’s all-time singles chart. In addition, he is in sixth place on the double list with 83 wins. For five years at FSU, Gracia helped lead the Seminoles NCAA Championships each year.

Gracia worked as a tennis teacher at the Seminole High Performance Center in Tallahassee, Fla., While studying for two years. He also spent four years as a high-performance coach at Rick Macci Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Fla. It was voted North American Youth Summer Camp No. 1.
