The English and Indian players took part in a heated clash in the Lord’s long room after the third day of action in the second test.
By Telegraph Sports, There were tense scenes in the Lord’s Pavilion that were prompted after Jasprit Bumrah threw a bouncy flood at James Anderson over ten balls.
English skipper Joe Root and Indian skipper Virat Kohl are believed to have exchanged words on their way to the locker rooms as things seemed to get out of hand.
“Players were described as arguing as they left the field of play, but the lines continued in the Long Room, which was full of Indian officials, support staff and team players who gave their team an inspiring reception as they walked in.” Daily Telegraph reported.
“Joe Root, who had just reached a brilliant unbeaten 180, and Virat Kohl are believed to have exchanged words on their way to the locker rooms as the situation threatened to escalate before the temperament cooled.”
The Lord’s Long Room is usually full of MCC members, and both teams walk up different stairs to their locker rooms.
But due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Long Room was closed to members last week, as was the players ’dining room.
“It allowed both sides to socialize more freely at the end of the day, making the confrontation more likely if the game heats up,” the report added.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli said on Tuesday that England was provoking his side, but did not reveal the words said.
“I can’t tell you the details of the words spoken. I think the cameras and carriers can pick it up for both teams. What is being said on the field and what is being done at the moment will give you extra motivation.”
The accelerator of England James Anderson also recounted what happened between him and the Indian players During the last session of the third day of the Lord’s trial.
In the second inning of the Lord’s test, Anderson was seen in an animated conversation with Bumrah after an Indian accelerator hit him with bounces. After that, the characters flared up and both teams practiced words throughout the game.
