Meet the mother-daughter duo competing in Tokyo

Although most family members were unable to travel to the Tokyo Paralympics due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Brazilian table tennis player Lethicia Rodrigues Lacerda and Sagittarius Jane Karla Gogel are an exception.

The pair is the only mother-daughter duo to compete in the Tokyo Games.

Rodrigues Lacerda, who is making his Paralympic debut in Tokyo, said he appreciated receiving tips from his mother.

It’s very special to be with my mom here, the 18-year-old said Olympic Information Service. We can both participate and share our feelings. Everything is very magical.

Meanwhile, Gogel will perform at the fourth Paralympic in Tokyo. He competed in table tennis at the 2008 and 2012 Paralympics before moving on to archery before the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

In the first table tennis match of the tournament, Rodrigues Lacerda lost 0-3 to Norways Aida Dahlen, an opponent whose mother competed several times before moving on to archery. Next, Rodrigues Lacerda will face China Huang Wenjuan.

The women’s archery competition starts later this week.
