Americas, Asia and EAP U19 – men’s CWC qualifiers canceled

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the American, Asian and EAP qualifiers for the ICC U19 Mens Cricket World Cup have been canceled due to the COVID-19 situation.

According to the guidelines approved by the ICC Development Committee and the ICC Board, three events cannot be organized. That’s why Canada, the UAE and Papua New Guinea are advancing to the ICC U19 Mens Cricket World Cup 2022 based on securing the most wins in the last five U19 qualifying rounds in each region.

The member accepted the ICC COVID guidelines for all route events, in which U19-age people took special account of the duty of care of minors, and clearly outlines the parameters according to which events cannot continue due to COVID restrictions.

ICC Event Manager Chris Tetley said: It is incredibly disappointing that three regional qualifiers for the ICC U19 Mens Cricket World Cup have been canceled due to the COVID-19 situation. According to the instructions approved by the member, once the teams have withdrawn due to the effects of the pandemic, we had no choice but to cancel these three events.

We have worked closely with all members to ensure that results can be determined on the playing field, but this was not possible for these events. Canada, the United Arab Emirates and PNG will advance to the U19 Men’s CWC in accordance with the qualifying events canceled in accordance with the ICC Board decision of November 2020.

In addition, the ICC U19 Mens Cricket World Cup Africa Africa has been transferred from Nigeria to Rwanda and will now be played on September 30-7. October due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The other two regional qualifiers are:

Participating teams: Ireland, Jersey, Netherlands, Scotland

ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifiers, host Rwanda, September 30 – October 7, 2021
Participating teams: Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda
