Thomson named women’s tennis men – Texas A&M Athletics

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas Texas A&M Tennis Appoints Former Aggie Men’s Tennis Bjorn Thomson Staff Volunteer Assistant Coach and Head Coach Mark Weaver announced on Thursday.

“Bjorn Thomson is going to be a great addition to our coaching team, and we’re excited to have him join the program,” Weaver said. “Bjorn had a highly embellished collegiate career and was named a double All American, which is, to put it mildly, quite impressive. More importantly, he is a young man by nature with tons of charisma and a real passion for the game. He plays an important role in developing an excellent team we have set. “

Prior to joining Aggi’s women’s tennis staff, Thomson played a crucial role as one of the top double options for the Texas A&M men’s tennis team when completed in 2021. Together with partner Juan Carlos Aguilar, Thomson finished 13-10 overall. in doubles and recorded eight wins against a nationally placed opponent. His success in court turned to national popularity and earned 9th place in the final ITA double poll of the season while receiving the ITA All-America Doubles Award alongside Aguilar. In addition to serving as the cornerstone of Aggie’s singles, Thomson confirmed eight additional wins in singles and dressed for Maroon & White. Her new role in Aggie’s women’s tennis program will be Thomson’s first step to collegiate coaching.

“I’m incredibly excited to start working with the women’s team,” Thomson said. – The opportunity to participate in Texas A&M Athletics is a great opportunity, and I am very grateful to Mark [Weaver] and Jordan [Szabo] that I get to be part of the team. I think we have a chance to do something special this year. We have a large number of women and coaches, so we do our best to make the Aggies guys proud. “

Thomson, originally from Birmingham, UK, is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports and fitness management and leadership at Texas A&M. Prior to his career in the Brazos Valley, Thomson was a great player on the Texas Tech Red Raider men’s tennis team from 2016-2020, collecting a record 88 double wins for the program, two selections for the All-Big 12 First Team and one more ITA Doubles All-America award. Thomson graduated from Texas Tech in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and also served as chairman of the Big 12 Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Board while in Lubbock.
