Could Jordan Travis follow a similar path as Lamar Jackson?

I want to get this out of the way right from the bat. No, I’m not trying to say that Jordan Travis will turn into Lamar Jackson and win the Heisman Award in 2021.

If you’re a frequent site reader, you know I won’t throw things up without backing up information.

Jordan Travis and Lamar Jackson have a lot in common. Both players let Bobby Petrino recruit them and sign up to play for Louisville as a three-star double-player.

Both players won the Lou Groza Player of the Year award while playing high school football in Florida.

Both guys had moments when they looked like inexperienced players on the field early in their college careers.

I know most people remember Jackson as the guy who burned everyone in 2016 (including FSU) on the way to winning the Heisman Award.

However, in 2015, Jackson had much of the same problems that plagued Jordan Travis in 2021. He was inaccurate in the passing game and did most of his damage to his legs.

The Jackson we saw in 2016 still had a lot of the same problems, and the statistics reflect that mood. As I began to look at the numbers presented by Jordan Travis in 2020, I began to wonder what was possible for him in 2021.

After all, Travis didn’t have an offseason and he rarely practiced in the fall camp before he took the starting position as a midfielder in mid-2020 for the Jacksonville State game.

It would be similar to Lamar Jackson, who wouldn’t sign up early and start playing freshman in 2015

The numbers are frighteningly close.
