India’s Vinod Kumar won bronze in the men’s puck F52 event at the Tokyo Paralympics with an Asian record on Sunday. This is India’s third medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, all three of which were won on Sunday, which is also National Sports Day. Bhavina Patel (table tennis) and Nishad Kumar (athletics high jump) won silver medals earlier in the day.

Vinod Kumar grabbed the bronze medal with the best 19.81-meter attempt in the puck final. The 41-year-old BSF man, whose father fought in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, produced the best throw at 19.91 meters and finished third. behind is Piotr Kosewicz from Poland (20.02 m) and Velimir Sandor from Croatia (19.98 m).

He injured his leg after training after joining BSF when he fell from Lehi Rock, which left him in bed for nearly a decade, during which time he lost both parents.

The F52 rating is for athletes with impaired muscle strength, limited range of motion, lack of limb or leg length difference, and athletes compete in a sitting position. It also applies to cervical injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and dysfunction.

Both Bhavinaben Patel and Nishad Kumar had previously won silver in the women’s single table tennis class 4 and the men’s T47 high jump tournaments on Sunday.
