Viking women’s tennis opens the season with a 5-4 win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -North Park University’s women’s tennis team opened its season by winning 5-4 Wisconsin Lutherans on Wednesday afternoon.

In foursome # 1, Lisa Viuhkonen and Sasha Academia used a strong base game and a great online game to win 8-4.

No. 2 duo Nikolina Kisin and Madeline Starr and # 3 duo Olivia DeLuca and Carla Cazesboth earned 8-7 and 8-4 wins.

In single-player, Academia dominated with 6-0, 6-1 chips, taking advantage of strong service, strong forwards and well-placed slices that dominated all sides of the match.

Cazesshow presented a well-rounded game that won base points with sharp corners and an impressive tip.

Mia Maclarren dropped the first set 0-6, but calmed herself in the next set with a 6-3 win to force a third set draw.

Academia, DeLuca, Cazes, Starr and Kisin all had their first collegiate victories at Wednesday’s season opener.

What next?

North Park (1-0) will face Carthage College next Wednesday, September 8th.
