Adler Mannheim proved too much for the Cardiff Devils again when the Elite League team dropped 7-2 in the Champions League.
After a 5-0 loss to Mannheim in Cardiff last week, the Devils responded with a great win from Lausanne.
But they quickly lagged behind in the SAP arena, Luca Tosto scored a goal before the first three for Ruslan Iskhakov.
Three second-season goals took the hosts to a 5-0 lead, but Cole Sanford and Brendan Mikkleson scored for the Devils late.
In the second game of the block, Finnish champion Lukko Rauma defeated the Swiss Lausanne HC to maintain the top spot.
The Devils are currently third, three points away from Mannheim.
They will play Lausanne on Saturday, September 4 in Switzerland before a double match against Lock in October.
