Girls Tennis Tour: The Pittston area slides past the Wyoming area

The Pittston area and the Wyoming area proved to be more even throughout their lineup than most of the Wyoming Valley Conference girls ’tennis opponents, but host Lady Patriots managed four more direct wins on the way to a 4-1 Lady Warriors victory on Tuesday.

Each losing player or double team in the match took at least six games before falling short.

Pittston Area swept the doubles with a second-level breaker at the first point.

Jacy VanOsdel-Katie Koss defeated Morgan Slusser-Ella Raun 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) and Laura Farber-Ayla Krieger defeated Jillian Graham-Milanna Bocchiaron 6-3, 7-5.

Lady Patriots also won the first two single places.

Megan Kapacs beat Cadence Cable 6-3, 6-4 first. Quinn Carden knocked down Ava Vacula 6-4, 6-2.

Jocelyn Williams earned a Wyoming Area point in the third single by beating Bethany Yashkus 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Each team had a second match later in the week.

Both the Pittston area and the Wyoming area ended week 1-1 and are now 1-2 overall.

Wyoming Area 3, Wyoming Valley West 2

Jocelyn Williams won 6-0, 6-0 on her third single on Thursday as the Wyoming Area took her first team win of the season.

Ella Rau and Morgan Slusser won the straight series in the first doubles matches of the Lady Warriors.

Crestwood 4, Pittston Area 1

Katie Koss and Jacy Van Osdol won the long match in the first doubles match from Pittston Area on Thursday to Crestwood with a loss.

Koss-Osdol beat Olivia Richards-Sydney Bruno 7-6 (9-7), 6-7 (3-7), 6-4.
