The move isn’t terribly surprising, but it has finally happened: Washington State Cougars announced today that evidence of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours forced to participate in home ball matches from October. The Washington Huskies, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle speakers FC, Seattle Mariners and Seattle Kraken announced similar practices today.
Like these teams, WSU’s policy applies to everyone over the age of 12. The school also immediately announced that masks are needed in football games ahead, starting this Saturday’s match against the Portland State Vikings.
The school announcement did not state whether either requirement would be extended to volleyball and football matches, both of which will be home before the beginning of October.
The release from the school had pretty scant details on how they would handle this going forward. For example, the UW announcement included stations with a vaccination facility approved for the whole period. WSU has the advantage of having more time to figure out the details, even though they have home games for the next two weekends and then three weeks away from home.
