University Football Votes: Updated AP Top 25, Coach Questionnaires After Week 1

It only took a week to unveil the biggest stories of this season as well as see who the contestants and pretenders are in the 2021 College Football Playoff.

As always, it starts in Alabama, which in any case looked like the number one in the country after it had landed No. 14 Miami 44-13. First-time quarterback Bryce Young showed no significant drop from Mac Jones during his debut, and the defense looked better than he had in years. But Crimson Tide isn’t the only effective team this year.

No team achieved a more impressive sequel with a constructive victory than Georgia, which rose to No. 5 at the time and knocked out No. 3 in Clemson’s neutral game Charlotte. The Bulldogs didn’t do much against the Tigers in the attack, but their defense, which kicked DJ Uiagalele seven times and made the game’s only goal attack, was Georgia, which needed a 10-3 win.

Week 1 was not entirely friendly to the teams placed in the pre-college football season. No. 2 in Oklahoma, No. 7 in the state of Iowa, and No. 11 in Oregon all suffer considerable fears against significantly worse opponents in Tulane, northern Iowa, and the state of Fresno; Heisman rival Sam Howell couldn’t stop Virginia Tech from upsetting North Carolina’s No. 10 road; Chip Kelly got perhaps the biggest win of his UCLA career by knocking out 16th LSU; and No. 10 Washington lost the shock to FCS opponent Montana.
