COLUMBIA, SC The Southeast Conference today announced the schedule for the Women’s Basketball Conference, which begins Thursday, December 30 across the league. Among its eight home games, South Carolina will host four of the six SEC teams that played in the 2021 NCAA and end the season by playing four of its last six games.
Gamecocks will play the home-home series with its regular partner Kentucky, as well as 2021 SEC regular season champion Texas A&M and WNIT runner-up Ole Miss. Top 25 and eight games against the 2021 NCAA tournament teams.
Only for the fourth time Dawn Staley era, South Carolina will open SEC operations on the road and travel to WNIT to Missouri on the opening night of the league (Dec. 30). Gamecocks will return home to open the series with Ole Miss on Sunday, January 2nd.
The second split weekend follows South Carolina heading south to LSU (Jan. 6) before returning to the Colonial Life Arena for the sun. On Jan. 9, a match against longtime rival Kentucky, which ended last season in the top 20. and played in the second round of the NCAA behind Rhine Howard, the SEC player of the year.
Gamecocks will stay home to face NCAA Sweet 16 enemy Texas A&M on Thursday, Jan. 13, but will be on the road again in Arkansas three days later (Jan. 16). After passing the mid-week on the game schedule, South Carolina will have a busy week hosting Vanderbilt on Monday, Jan. 24 and non-conference rival UConn on Thursday, Jan. 27 before traveling to Florida on Sunday (January). 30).
The Colonial Life Arena welcomes the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the weekend of Alabama and Mississippi State home games on Thu, Feb. 3 and Sun, Feb. 6. From there, Gamecocks will move into the final part of the season, mostly away from home, starting with trips to Kentucky (Feb. 10) and SEC Tournament Runner-Up to Georgia (Feb. 13).
The last home game of the South Carolina season will start against Auburn on Thursday, February 17th. Gamecocks will be celebrating their senior class in the final home game of the season on Sunday, February 20 against the top 15 finishers in Tennessee.
Gamecocks will complete the schedule for its regular season by closing two home and home series, a trek to Texas A&M (Feb. 24) and Ole Miss (Feb. 27).
After three seasons in Greenville, SC, the SEC tournament will return to Nashville in 2022, with games starting Wed, March 2th.
Game times and television broadcast data for the 2021-22 season will be released later, as will Gamecocks ’non-conference schedule.
For the 2021-22 season, Gamecocks will return all 11 members of its 2021 NCAA Final Four team and add both the country’s No. 1 recruiting class and the dominant ACC freshman and defensive player of the year. Staley, who also led the U.S. Olympic team’s gold medal in Tokyo, has led Gamecocks to six SEC tournament wins in the last seven seasons and three NCAA finals in the last six.
