Murray State women’s tennis will begin its season this weekend with a couple of matches against OVC enemy Belmont. Racers will host the match at Bennie Purcell pitches in Murray, Kentucky on Saturday (September 11) at 12:00 p.m. The next day, Sunday (September 12), Murray State will travel to Belmont University to take another match with the Bruins in Nashville, Tennessee.
Racers will return five players from last season’s team. 5th years older Stasya Sharapova expects to build 44 individual wins and 45 career double wins in his career. Juniors Marit Kreugel and Natalie Slezakova restores valuable experience for the Racers with 19 combination games played last season.
Murray State will return its second victory from its leader last season to second-year students Sarah’s office and Gabrielle Geolier. The Bureau led the Racers with a 12-5 personal record last season and went 5-2 in the OVC game. Geolier went 10-7 one-on-one with a strong 6-1 OVC record.
Coach Jorge Caetano brings five new entrants to fill the 2021-22 season list. Sophomore Jordina Font from Barcelona, Spain and younger Anikka Pschorr from Aystetten, Germany, come to the Racers through a transfer. Graduated from Murray High School Emily Kinsey joins Racers this season as a junior. Two freshmen join the team in Paducah, Kentucky Maggie Smith and Joinville, a native of Brazil Paola Campigotto.
– We are very excited to play this weekend and have a great experience getting a good competition at the beginning of the season. Caetano said, “Our returnees are doing a great job of rehearsals and I can’t wait to see them compete with our newcomers.”
