Men’s tennis adds volunteer assistant coach Sonam Phuntsok to the staff

TUCSON, Ariz. Volunteer assistant coach Sonam Phuntsok joins the Arizona men’s tennis coaching team for his first season at the Wildcats. Hailing from Manal, India, he was one of the top 30 junior players in the U18 and speaks five different languages ​​fluently.

Phuntsok played at Lewis and Clark State College from 2012-2016. He was the team captain at both a young and senior year and led them to the GSAC Conference Championship in his senior year as well as the second round of the NAIA tournament. / Leadership National Award and earned a degree in psychology as a minor in theater.

After college, Phuntsok coached at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in New York with the best juniors of the year for a year. He returned to India to coach at Team Tennis Academy for a year before earning a job as an assistant coach at the University of Seattle in 2018-2021 in both men’s and women’s tennis.

As an assistant coach in Seattle, he helped recruit one of the best classes in program history and coached their doubles team for the entire conference selection, where two single players also made the list. While at the University of Seattle, he received his master’s degree in sports business management.
