JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) South Africa have nominated three front-line discs in their team for the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman, but failed to open batsman Janneman Malan.

The team is led by Temba Bavuma, who is currently injured but is likely to open a fight with Quinton de Kock. Aiden Markram was selected as the third best striker at the top of the order.

Powerful Malan have averaged 92 rackets in their first ten one-day international matches, including three centuries, but couldn’t force their way into the team in a shorter form despite their established six-hitting ability.

Keshav Maharaj, Bjorn Fortuin and world number one bowler in T20 format Tabraiz Shamsi are the team’s front-line spin options, and Markram can offer a part-time option.

South Africa will move directly to the second Super 12 stage of the World Cup, where they will be in a group with Australia, England, the holders of West India and two other qualifiers.

The tournament will be held from October 17 to November. 14. South Africa faced Australia at the inauguration on 23 October in Abu Dhabi.
