Parkland football wins a wild match against Nazareth

Parkland 43, Nazareth 40 – Rapid Recap

The Parkland national football team had two memorable moments against Nazareth in 2019. A return to home victory in the regular season and a heartbreaking defeat in the 22-21 District 11 6A championship game.

The Trojans against the latest competition Blue Eagles I can now add to this list of great games.

Parkland won the Nazareth 43-40 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South Divsion match Friday night at Orefield Middle School Stadium.

Turning point: Parkland senior Dahlir Adams scored a goal with a 10-yard goal attack and lifted the Trojans 36-33 lead 9:47 left.

Three plays for the Blue Eagles, Parkland senior Nico Medlar abducted Nazareth quarterback Sonny Sasso and returned the 22 yards he picked up to the Blue Eagles 9. Two repetitions later, sophomore Trey Tremba hit a one-yard touch before taking second-year Luke Spang to a quarterback goalkeeper in the middle for a two-point conversion that expands Parklands ’goal to 43-33.

Nazareth played a no-huddle attack on his next run and only needed five games to drive 71 yards to the Trojans 7. After a short run, older Tyler Rohn was followed by backpacks as sophomore Russell Clark and senior Peyton Marciniak dropped Sasso behind the line in consecutive games.

Four goals and 23 meters from the finish line, Sasso found the middle of the older Jake Hilarczyk near the finish line. Hilarczyk continued the ball towards the goal line, but was stopped at the yard and Blue Eagles turned the ball downhill.

Nazareth used all three of his timeouts for the next Trojans. The Blue Eagles cut Parklands ’lead to 43-40 with 43 yards from Sasso and Nolan Lobb after 27 seconds but were unable to return the ball.

Top performers: Adams finished the game with 175 yards on 22 positions and two touches.

Tremba scored three goals in the match. A sophomore took a starting return of 91 yards for points in the first quarter, got 18 yards in contact in the second quarter before making it to the fourth installment. Tremba also restored the Blue Eagles competition with about 20 seconds left in the game to seal the win.

Sasso had a great performance for Nazareth. The junior scored 24/35 of 388 yards and four goals.

Lobb grabbed all four goals and finished with 12 catches at 253 yards. The younger also scored a goal from six when he caught Spang and took a 39-yard touch in the third quarter. Hilarczyk finished with seven catches at 100 yards.

What does it mean: The Trojans improve their readings 2-0 before the central Freedom battle (3-0). The Patriots, who are third in Lehighvalley live, will travel to second-place Parkland on Friday night.

Nazareth (2-1) plans to get back into the victory triangle as it travels to the Bethlehem District School District Stadium to face a Bethlehem Catholic Saturday afternoon.
