After a nearly four-month hiatus, Australia and Delhi Capitals striker Steve Smith will return to competitive cricket with the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of a long season, followed by the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and Ashes.

After six days of quarantine, Smith finally got into training on Friday night and was excited to get back into the IPL and hoped he and Delhi Capitals could continue where they left off after winning six of the eight games they have played and sit beautifully at the top of the table.

Speaking on the Delhi Capitals YouTube channel, Smith said: “I hope you can continue where you left off. That would be ideal. But the reality is that it’s been a couple of months since we played together. So, I guess we’ll just build again and hopefully play our best cricket in the final . “

Speaking about the team, Smith said the team will be strengthened by the return of Shreyas Iyer, who missed the first half of the IPL due to shoulder surgery.

“The team is great. Apparently I got Shreyas’ addition back into the mix, which brings us a lot more. He’s a quality player and good to see him back in the park,” Smith added.

Smith, who played six games for last year’s finalists, made 104 runs averaging 26 and the best 34 *. The star player suggested that the Capitals have not played their best yet and that they have a lot left in the tank, become the business end of the tournament.

“We play good cricket and we get the results we aim for. In fact, we probably don’t play as good cricket as we would have liked, which is a plus for us. I think we still have a lot left in the tank,” Smith said.

The capitals will continue their IPL 2021 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad 22. September in Dubai.
