Lewis Hamilton invites black designers to table because “inclusion is important”

The Met Gala event, canceled due to the new COVID pandemic, returned to the fashion industry’s biggest night of the year in New York. The star-filled Met Gala 2021 proved A-list celebrities sporting stunning designer outfits on the red carpet. The event is hosted by singer Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman, actress Timothee Chalamet and tennis player Naomi Osaka. The event honored the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute and celebrated modern American fashion.

While caught up in the theme of the incredible power racing world, Lewis Hamilton, known for his perfectly tailored outfits ranging from designers Tommy Hilfiger to Dolce & Gabbana during the last Met Galas, decided to move a little out of the spotlight and highlight the three rising black designers at the mega fashion event.

For In America: a fashion dictionary,themed Met Gala 2021, Lewis Hamilton decided to use his influence to showcase black designers. The Met Gala veteran, moving his lens from sports to fashion, sees it as a celebration of the underrepresented and neglected design abilities that inspire him every day. He invited three rising black designers to his desk, which cost as much as $ 30,000.

Historically, the tables are often bought by the industry’s largest advertisers, who use seats for the celebrities they’ve dressed in the evening, which hasn’t been great to make a global event a comprehensive and varied event in the past. Vogue about it, Hamilton said that today “diversity and inclusion are so important,” which is why he also founded his organization called the “Hamilton Commission.” The Formula 1 contestant added that he understood that many young brands and designers ‘have no chance’ and that ‘really set off’.

Hamilton went on to say that when the Met Gala was the biggest fashion event of the year, he wanted to ‘create something meaningful and spark a conversation’. He also wanted people to see it all together, “putting these black designers in people’s minds.”

In addition, Hamilton has founded a charity called Mission44 that defends, researches, and collaborates to improve socially divisive and work-related inequalities that prevent black people from reaching their potential. Hamilton apparently uses his influence to put aspiring young black talents at the forefront of people’s minds and to raise awareness of such issues facing the community.
