Fundraising for Jake Thibeault, a Milton Academy hockey player who suffered a serious spinal cord injury, at Worcester Ice Center

The Worcester hockey community hosted public skating in the city on Friday to raise money for Jake Thibeault, a high school hockey player who suffered a serious spinal cord injury earlier this month and paralyzed him from the waist down.

Public skating will be held at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center on Friday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Event organizers are asking for a donation of at least $ 10 per person. All proceeds go to the Thibeault family to help with medical expenses. Bracelets are also sold at events.

Thibeault of Fibeburg broke their T7 and T8 vertebrae in a hockey match on September 4th. Greg Hill Foundation Fundraising, which has raised $ 65,000.

GoFundMe has also been created to pay for care costs and has raised over $ 400,000.

Thibeault posted a photo on Instagram earlier this month in which he sat in his hospital bed and thanked those who supported him.

I want to first thank everyone who has reached out, he said in an Instagram post that has since been removed. The road will be long, but for each of you it will be a little easier.

Thibeaults ’father Michael said in a Facebook post that disability does not define his son. He also thanks all the people who have influenced Thibeault in hockey.

My family is amazing, and this setback doesn’t define us or change who Jake is, Michael Thibeault said. We were strong before and we are even stronger during this time.
