BALTIMORE (WJZ) – As a result of the recent wave of violence in Baltimore, 22-year-old Abe Ludden and 20-year-old Davon ‘Peanut’ Barnes were shot dead on East Monument Street on Sunday, according to Mark Conner. Non-profit Tender Bridge and Baltimore Banners hockey.

“The peanut has appeared at the Monument in recent months, and we were worried. We were worried. The only thing we can’t offer our children is a shrine – a 24/7 protective bubble. It all hurts us that we’ve lost both boys, ”Conner told WJZ researcher Mike Hellgren. He told Hellgren when he thinks of Peanut that he immediately remembers “the boy flying down the ice with a smile on his face. He loved being a part of our family and loved hockey. “

The 15-year-old was also wounded in the shooting, which remains unresolved. It was one of many past five days in East Baltimore when bullets have hit victims as young as 12 years old.

“Our job is to give these kids a chance to feel better. Take them off the streets for a few hours every Saturday and every Sunday and try to give a better idea of the world and the opportunities, ”Conner said. “Several children would tell us they had friends who were shot and killed, but this is the first time it will directly affect one of our children.”

Coach Conner worked with Peanut for a decade and with Abe for five years. He founded a GoFundMe who has raised more than $ 11,000 for the funeral. All remaining money goes to The Tender Bridge.

“We’re somewhat foster parents, so it’s the same as losing your own child,” Conner said.

Several parents in East Baltimore told WJZ this week that such programs are needed – that children have little to do. “We need people to participate as mentors,” Conner told Hellgren.

Tender Bridge has seen support and wants to make sure these young men are never forgotten.

“So many condolences start with the words, ‘We are sorry for your loss,’ but this loss belongs to the whole city. This loss is our city and all the people and everyone who lives there, and we have to start thinking about all these terrible things in this way. It affects us as families. and communities – all of Baltimore’s citizenship. ”
