(Reuters) Safety has been tightened around the New Zealand women’s cricket team after a threat in Leicester on Tuesday before a one-day match against England.

England previously withdrew from their men’s and women’s teams on a Pakistan tour in the coming months, three days after New Zealand abandoned its tour in the country amid security concerns.

New Zealand Cricket said a threatening email had been sent to the Cricket Committee of England and Wales (ECB).

The website http://www.espncricinfo.com reported that a member of the New Zealand team management was told that a bomb would be placed in the team’s hotel.

As reported, the ECB has received a threatening email related to NZC, a statement from NZ Cricket said.

Although this did not explicitly refer to white ferns, it was seriously treated, investigated, and not considered credible.

White ferns have now arrived in Leicester and the safety of their environment has been increased as a precaution.

England lead five sets of matches 2-0.
