Cheyenne South Tennis hopes from the podium at the 2021 State Championships

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Wyoming High School tennis season is very fast in Wyoming. Just a few weeks of regular season matches and then it’s time to play on regional and state equipment.

For the Cheyenne South Boys Tennis team, they may not have had tons of athletes sent north yesterday to play in the Thursday-Saturday state championships at Gillette, but they have hopes for a podium.

We may not have the depth, but really [strong upfront], said Southern head tennis coach Josh Cossitt. If we get any of these points for Singles, you know [if we can get two guys] in the singles final I think we can definitely get some kind of podium equipment for us.

South Boys Tennis took over his entire team, but it’s only nine kids.

As for the doubles athletes mentioned by Cossitt, the boys are headed by Andrew Lock, the brother of triple doubles state champion Brendan Lock, who went perfectly (13-0) in his matches this season.

[My mindset is to] not absolutely calm, said South Sophomore Andrew Lock. When the score tightens, come out and be physical, be active on the field, get every ball in and hit the best players if I can.

The highest South Boys Tennis has ever reached third place in the state in 2019.
