England have won the series in New Zealand for the first time after a 49-45 victory over world champions in the third test in Christchurch on Friday.

Roses landed in New Zealand to face a team that had finished their World Cup dream in Liverpool two years ago, and after winning two songs in two exciting races, Jess Thirlby’s team rose on the field as desired.

After losing the first test on Monday, England leveled the series on Wednesday, recovering from a three-goal halftime deficit and ending up with a 55-45 winner.

Roses delivered it and more in the third exciting encounter.

Stunning second-half-inspired by Eleanor Cardwell’s flawless shooting performance and Captain Serena Guthrie’s sensational performance — saw England beat Silver Ferns 33-21 and knocked down 10 goals in the halfway deficit on the way to the moment of the gun.

Thirlby had reduced the deficit to four in the impressive third quarter.

With the series in line and preparations for the Commonwealth Games tournament in Birmingham next July, all eyes were on the teams and Silver Ferns ’early news looked bad.

The absence of Captain Gina Crampton and Deputy Captain Sulu Fitzpatrick limited their options, but thoroughly emphasized their strength, as Karin Burger and Maia Wilson were the names of the starting team.

England again made two changes and came to the same defensive and goal attack locations they have tried throughout the series. Sophie Drakeford-Lewis started on the bench after an impressive performance in place of Eleanor Cardwell and Beth Cobden replaced Imogen in defense.

It was a more established Englishman who started quickly and opened the advantage of three goals thanks to early turnover. However, Burger showed his class in New Zealand by turning his own circle to set the tone for the first half with Wilson’s capital letter.

England’s 8-5 lead Silver Ferns ’4-1 run was a sign of upcoming events as the first half ended with the teams’ exchange goals in the level race.

The wind in its sails New Zealand seized the initiative and the turnover ball proved decisive – England won a lot but failed to take advantage. Silver Ferns, on the other hand, were ruthless when Wilson and Selby-Ricket took every opportunity.

At 15-14 ahead, the hosts played with freedom appropriate for the world champion, a six-goal goal broke Roses ’resistance and Noeline Taurua’s team had pulled a remarkable 10-goal half.

Just as he has done throughout the series, Thirlby turned to his bench, this time Cardwell and Fran Williams were introduced and the results were momentary.

The roses had fought back for another test, but the task was even more demanding as they ran into a double-digit deficit.

Cardwell moved into the shooter’s bib after Kelly Jury had limited Fisher’s influence.

When Geva Mentor shut down New Zealand’s offensive options, England continued to take advantage of the Silver Ferns advantage and by the end of the third quarter, they were within four and were able to build a monumental fourth quarter.

The TV cameras received Thirby and asked his team to give him everything they had in the series on the line, and they responded by winning the ball from New Zealand’s opening central pass and turning before remaining expensive with their own ball.

Within minutes, England had halved the deficit again by two and Cardwell proved unstoppable, maintaining his 100 per cent record to take full advantage of the opportunities Roses created – especially Guthrie and Jade Clarke.

As the game progressed to the final 10 minutes, the Thunder shooter took England to the lead by Laura Malcom through a court sought by.

Appropriately, Guthrie’s turnover paved the way for England to move three goals clearly and mistakes no longer occurred as England remained calm throughout the last two minutes to close the landmark and victory.

Roses are set to move to Australia’s three-game series, and they head there in a high mood when the defense of the gold medal was completed.
