The Michigan State Men’s Golf Team posted a 36-hole score of 2-under par 566 and is ninth among 14 teams at the Windon Memorial Classic at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill.
The tournament is played on a par-71, 7,000-yard course on the shores of Lake Michigan.
The game was suspended due to darkness and five teams were still on the track. These teams complete the second round at 7.30 (CT), and the third and final round ends at approximately 8:15 (CT).
Notre Dame, South Florida and Marquette, who all finish the second round on Tuesday morning, led the field, while Washington was tied for third place with 7 under 561 and Georgia Tech and Kansas for fifth with less than 6 under 563. Kent State, MSU and Cal Poly complement the top ten teams.
The Spartans took fifth place after Monday morning’s round, playing 3-under par 281, and then 1-over-285 in the afternoon.
Freshman Ashton McCulloch (Kingston, Ontario / Holy Cross Catholic) sped up the Spartans on Monday and fired consecutive 1-under par 70 rounds, ending 2-under par 140 and finishing 13th.
Junior Bradley Smithson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) shot 4-under par 67 in the second round and is exactly in 20th place 1-under par 141.
Senior Troy Taylor II (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) is exactly 39th after 1-over par 143 after even par-71 and 1-over 72 rounds.
Fifth year James Piot (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) was exactly in fifth place after 3-under par 68, but sent 5-over-pair 76 in the second round and is exactly 47th in 2-over par 144.
Second year student August Meekhof (Coopersville, Mich./Allendale) is exactly 74th in 7-over par 149, rounds 1-over 72 and 6-over 77.
