Field hockey winds Dartmouth 3-0 victory

The field hockey team (4-5, 1-1 Ivy) defeated Dartmouth Big Green (4-6, 0-2 Ivy) with a victorious 3-0 win on Saturday at Goldberger Family Field. The win earned Bears his first win of the Ivy League season. Bruno shot Big Green 17-7, took the momentum with an early goal for Emma Rosen 22 and never looked back.

The coach of Jill Reeve was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. I’m proud that this was a team win. We were able to play like ourselves, tightened our passports together and (really) worked together, Reeve said.

Rosen triggered a Bears attack in the first 45 seconds of the second quarter after Chloe Perel’s 23 assists due to a quarrel in front of the net. Bruno doubled his lead in the final seconds of the third quarter from a penalty corner by Chloe Sik 25 to Dani van Rootselaar 22. This was one of van Rootselaar’s eight leading shots in the match as he continued to prove himself the driving force behind the Bears offense.

Midfielder Mikayla Walsh 25 put the game out of the reach of the Big Greens at the start of the fourth quarter and made a pass from Lindsey Ross 23 in the middle of the circle. From there, the bears cruised to victory over their Ivy League rivals.

The Bears ’dominant defense was led by goalkeeper Calista Manuzza 23. Manuzza earned the first goal victory of his career and made seven fights. He rose when starting goalkeeper Jodie Brine 23 got a concussion against Georgetown University in Browns ’previous game. Although his start was a last-minute change, he didn’t feel pressure to step into the role. The warm-up was completely flawless, Manuzza said. I didn’t have nerves for this game because we came to it knowing what we had to do to win.

Although Brown was missing a few players due to injury, the bears also gained strength after restoring key assistants from the COVID-19 protocol, including team captain Rosen. It was a really great team victory to return, Rosen said. There were a lot of connecting passages, and I think everyone (just) enjoyed there. After the pandemic and losing a couple more games of COVID hiccups, it’s just awesome to be there.

The Bears will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, for an out-of-conference match against Holy Cross College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. This will be the last game on the schedule outside of the Brunos conference before they dive into the Ivy League match.

We just have to stay focused and move forward as we go to the Ivy League, Reeve said. There is so much room for growth, and I am so excited that this team will be showcasing their offerings in particular.
