Premier cricket: Claremont-Nedlands cruise to a 10-wicket victory at the university

Claremont-Nedlands have made their intentions in the opening round of the Premier cricket season as they facilitated with a 10-win against their local rival at Cresswell Park University.

A century of Nicholas Hobson and a fine 98 hit from Jacob Whiteaker led the hosts to a crushing victory when they were set to win 225.

The openers overtook the ensemble with just under five games to get the title search to a positive start.

The university had reached 6-224 after being sent to the bat, but found it difficult to go because only two bats made more than 17.

Two early throws to Liam Haskett left the university 2-13, but the dismissal of Charlie Stobos 3-65 led to the start of the most fruitful partnership between the universities.

Viv Paver (77) and Coby Edmondstone (93) put 92 on the fourth throw-in to keep their chances alive before Paver fell to Haskett.

Edmondstone continued his fight, but his departure on page 224 ended in their innings.

In response, Whiteaker and Hobson quickly set out to reach the goal, and it only took more than three hours to achieve a win.

Hobson made 123 out of 142 balls, banging 11 four and six on the way to victory.
