Amanda Staveley has told me Sky Sports news Newcastle United’s long-term goal is to rise to the top of the Premier League after the club took over on Thursday.
“Newcastle United deserves to be at the top of the Premier League. We want to get there. It will take time, but we will get there,” says Staveley, CEO of PCP Capital Partners, who is now head of Newcastle’s board.
“We are proud to be part of the Premier League. It is an incredibly competitive league that we love. Premier League football is the best in the world and Newcastle United is the best team in the world.
“Of course we want to see it get these awards. At the top of the Premier League in Europe, but getting trophies means patience, investment and time. We want everyone to work with us to build the club towards what it needs to be.”
PCP Capital Partners is part of an investment group led by a public investment fund (PIF) and also includes RB Sports & Media, which ended in 14-year ownership by Mike Ashley Newcastle.
Staveley said the new owners “want to invest at all levels,” and while Steve Bruce is expected to change, he’s not interested in the future of the head coach or the plans for new players.
“We have a great team,” Staveley added. – I had a great conversation with Jamaica [Lascelles] tonight as captain. We are really excited to strengthen the team, but we need to work within the Financial Fair Play and ensure that this is done in the longer term.
“But you can know and be sure we want to invest at all levels. We want to have the best possible team.
“It simply came to our notice then [big-name players]but you just need a team that works well together. It is just as important. “
When asked if he would have a chance to talk to Bruce, he said: “I spoke to the manager and greeted and introduced ourselves. We look forward to talking to him in the coming days. There is an international break, so I think everyone is just relieved to rest before the Tottenham match.”
Asked about Bruce’s future, he replied: “We support Steve very much and we have talked to him. What we are going to do is not talk about leaders or what big signatures we can make. Look through football operations, including the commercial side, and go back and make some decisions. “
It remains to be seen whether Bruce is liable against Tottenham 17. October Sky Sports, he added: “I can’t even talk about any players or managers at this point.”
Staveley’s message to fans
Staveley confirmed that he lives in the Northeast, and said the group is taking the role as new owners “very seriously,” four years after a game that sparked his interest.
“We’ve definitely taken the time to get here,” Staveley said. “The first game I came to was Newcastle-Liverpool. It lasted half an hour and I was in love with the city, the club and their amazing fans. Today has only been exceptional.”
He added: “We want to thank the amazing fans. We wouldn’t be here without them today, it’s their club. We want to be the big custodians of this club. We take our role very seriously. We don’t want to exaggerate because I’ve seen many people come to clubs and say ‘we do this “but we really want to really invest in all areas of this club at all levels.
“We know it’s at the heart of the community, you can feel it. It’s too touching for me too, that I can finally talk about it openly.
“The last 48 hours have been exhausting. I also want to thank the Premier League and Mike [Ashley] that we all get there. “
Newcastle are currently 19th in the Premier League table and Staveley admitted that while their position is worrying, he believes the team will be able to rise from the relegation zone.
He said: “Expulsion is a really big problem right now and we have to work hard. Performance could improve somewhat, but we have a great team and this team shouldn’t be in 19th place. We really shouldn’t, but with a reasonable mood and hard work we get there.
“I think it also shows the commitment of PIF and Jamie Reuben. What can I say as PCP, I have bold and patient investors by my side. They had to take on this challenge. They know how important this club is to appreciate where we are in the league and we know they will be a real problem. “
The Premier League confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday that it had received “legally binding assurances” that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would not control Newcastle United.
Prior to the announcement of the agreement, Amnesty International drew attention to the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia and called on the Premier League to reconsider its criteria for approving acquisitions.
“Instead of allowing perpetrators of serious human rights abuses to walk into English football just because they have deep pockets, we have called on the Premier League to change the test of its owners and managers to address human rights issues,” Amnesty UK CEO Sacha Deshmukh said earlier on Thursday.
Staveley asked those interested in the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia: “The consortium’s lead partner is PIF, it is an independent, commercially managed investment fund. It is a great partner for Newcastle. I have the great honor of working with them. I have been an incredibly patient and wonderful partner for PCP.
“To me, when I came here, I knew there was only one partner in Newcastle. It was quite obvious because you needed someone with a patient capital who is brave, can make quick decisions and can be there even on sunny days and the rain starts to rain.
“I hear [the concerns]We want all the fans to talk to us, so anyone with problems knows they’re here and they have to come talk to us. We go through their plans and present them all to the PIF team. “
